Aeronautics Hose Verification Success Story
From Scheduled Hose Replacement to Data-Driven Aeronautics Hose Verification
A French aeronautics company knew its existing hose replacement strategy was expensive, but the greater concern was uncertainty. Without a reliable way to verify hose integrity, the company could not confidently distinguish serviceable hoses from those that posed a potential risk. To improve safety while making more informed maintenance decisions, it partnered with Swagelok Lyon to develop a custom aeronautics hose verification solution.
Traditional replacement schedules provided a maintenance framework, but they could not answer a critical question: which hoses remained fit for service and which required immediate replacement. The customer wanted a repeatable method for evaluating hose condition based on actual performance rather than time in service alone.
What Is Aeronautics Hose Verification?
Aeronautics hose verification is a process that combines visual inspection and performance testing to determine whether a hose remains suitable for service. By evaluating actual hose condition rather than relying solely on replacement intervals, organizations can identify hidden failures, improve maintenance confidence, and avoid replacing serviceable hoses.
Developing an Aeronautics Hose Verification Process
To address the challenge, Swagelok Lyon partnered with the customer to create a custom hose verification solution capable of testing hoses under conditions representative of real-world operation. By combining engineering, design, assembly, and documentation support, Swagelok Lyon helped the customer establish a repeatable evaluation process supported by technical rigor and long-term traceability.
Hose Testing Revealed Hidden Failures
During the initial verification campaign, Swagelok Lyon evaluated approximately 20 hoses using both visual inspection and pressure testing. While visual inspection identified five hoses that required removal from service, pressure testing uncovered seven additional non-compliant hoses that could not have been reliably identified through visual inspection alone.
The results provided a clear basis for action: 12 hoses were removed from service, while eight were verified and safely returned to operation. By validating hose condition under representative operating conditions, the customer identified hidden risks that visual inspection alone would have missed while avoiding the unnecessary replacement of hoses that remained fit for service.
~200 Verification Program Expansion
Benefits of Aeronautics Hose Verification and A Long-Term Solution
What began as an effort to improve hose verification evolved into a permanent maintenance capability. The customer now uses the test bench as part of recurring verification campaigns covering nearly 200 hoses, giving maintenance teams a reliable method for evaluating hose condition over time.
By swapping fixed replacement schedules with a data-driven verification process, the customer gained a more reliable foundation for maintenance decisions. Swagelok Lyon helped improve confidence in hose qualification, reduce the risk of hidden failures, and avoid unnecessary replacement of serviceable assets.
