Where Can Hydrogen and CNG Designers Turn for Help?

Global investment into H₂ and compressed natural gas powered vehicles and their supporting infrastructure continues. That means selecting and specifying high-performance components are essential. But where to start? On-vehicle systems require dozens of components to operate reliably. Each of these components should be tested and proven to deliver reliable performance.

In a new four-part Ask Swagelok video series, we look to make sense of the current landscape.

Our final installment of the Ask Swagelok series focused on clean energy standards. Chuck Hayes details where H₂ and CNG fluid system designers can turn for help navigating the certification landscape.

CRAIG GIFFORD:
Welcome to Ask Swagelok. I’m Craig Gifford here today with Chuck Hayes, who is Swagelok’s global hydrogen expert.

And Chuck, we've been talking about clean energy certifications and standards for both H₂ and compressed natural gas, and everything that kind of is involved in that process. So, Chuck, where can system designers go to understand more information about all these certifications and standards related to H₂ and compressed natural gas?

CHUCK HAYES:
Right. It's a fairly simple answer. It's the same as the title of this session that we have today. And that's Ask Swagelok, yes.

So, Ask Swagelok. If you want to self-serve, that's the first place to go. Go to swagelok.com. Under the industries page, you go right to clean energy. And then right there, there's a button that says certifications and standards. And there, we talk through everything we've done through this whole series—about pressure classes, about what the certs are in different parts of the world, what their numbers are—and then we go through all of our products and how we meet them, or how we have tested to them and what we have available as far as test reports and certifications and so forth.

But beyond that, your local sales and service center is always your first point. So, your salespeople may know some of the technical data, but we have another group of people at most of the sales and service centers. We've got over 50 of these field engineers trained in clean energy. So, they've had training in all of this plus a lot of the other parts of design that can help. They can help.

And then on top of that, it's really important to look at where you are regionally in the world and understand that you're developing a product where you want it to finally end up, because there might be different standards you need if you ship it across the border someplace to be able to make it work within that country.

CRAIG GIFFORD:
So, it sounds like we can help them both locally and globally.

CHUCK HAYES:
Absolutely.

CRAIG GIFFORD:
Fantastic. Well, Chuck, thank you very much for sharing your knowledge today. And thank you for joining us at Ask Swagelok.
