Swagelok Ltd. and Swagelok Bristol Honored by Royal Navy
Quick and expert response from Swagelok authorized sales and service representative Swagelok Bristol and associates at Swagelok Ltd. earned them special recognition from Britain’s Royal Navy.
While on assignment, the HMS Ramsey, a Sandown class mine counter measure vessel, required emergency repairs to its high-pressure air system, a critical support system that serves several important shipboard functions. Swagelok Bristol was called in to evaluate the requirements for a technical solution under strict time constraints.
In just over two weeks, the Swagelok team identified and sourced the Swagelok® tools, tube fittings, and valves needed to carry out the repairs. The team also facilitated installation and training for the ship’s staff and oversaw the final inspection, before handing over the functioning system to the Ministry of Defence.
At a ceremony at Swagelok Ltd.’s Isle of Man manufacturing facility, Commander Jon Merritt RN, presented an HMS Ramsey ship plaque to Swagelok Bristol and Swagelok Ltd. associates. He said, “The air-pressure system failure we encountered was critical. We needed to make the system safer for the ship’s personnel to operate and maintain, with as little downtime as possible. Swagelok was able to assist us at very short notice and the team coped well in what was a challenging environment. They also ensured the ship’s company understood the technical aspects involved.” Commander Merritt is the Compressed Air & Pipework Equipment (CAPE) leader for surface ships and submarines.
HMS Ramsey is the tenth of the Sandown Class of Single Role Minehunters to enter service and the third Royal Navy ship to bear the name. HMS Ramsey has a ship’s company of 5 Officers, 7 Senior Ratings and 22 Junior Ratings. HMS Ramsey is affiliated with the town of Ramsey on the Isle of Man.
