Local Swagelok® Product Inventory Gets Power Plant Up and Running
The Problem: A power plant’s unit was taken off line one evening to perform maintenance. Unfortunately, the unit was unable to restart due to a tube fitting with straight threads that had been galled on remake. A plant technician contacted his existing supplier, his local authorized Swagelok sales and service representative, as well as all other competitors in an effort to find the replacement part as soon as possible.
The Swagelok Solution: The Swagelok representative immediately went to the office, retrieved a fitting from stock, and arrived at the plant at 8:30 p.m. By this time, the affected unit had been down for about 3 hours. Swagelok was the only supplier able to bring the exact fitting required to get the unit up and running. If not for the local product inventory, the customer estimated the unit would have been down for a full 24 hours.
The Benefit: The customer was able to avoid substantial revenue losses by only being down for 3 hours. Power plant officials were so impressed with the sense of urgency demonstrated by the Swagelok representative that they not only asked him to quote switching their fluid system inventory over to Swagelok products, but they also asked him to visit a sister plant nearby to quote switching over its inventory. |
