Engineers at the Ready They are a team of Swagelok engineers separated by geography but united in mission. They are members of the Field Engineers Program, a service that builds on the company’s vision to truly understand customers’ needs and act on them.
“The program is getting us closer to the customer,” says Bill Menz, manager of field engineering. “It’s allowing us to identify customer needs, react more quickly to them, and understand problems from a technical standpoint.”
The eight Swagelok field engineers are located in North America, Europe, the United Kingdom, Japan, and China. A ninth will be based in Southeast Asia.
The team focuses its expertise on a group of products, applications, and services chosen by Swagelok for special emphasis. This year’s focus includes modular platform components (MPC), stream selector valves, double block and bleed valves, monoflanges, and medium-pressure tube fittings.
In a typical circumstance, a sales representative is calling on a customer who has a need for one of these products and calls in a field engineer to offer additional technical expertise. Field engineers may serve as project managers on large jobs involving these products.
Additionally, engineers provide distributor training in the products and integrated services, as well as offer updates on other components. Engineering specialties of the team include industrial, marine, mechanical, and nuclear. “These engineers,” says Menz, “display incredible technical competence.”
