Swagelok Senior Research Fellow Honored By ASM International
SOLON, Ohio (August 25, 2008) - ASM International has elected Sunniva R. Collins, Ph.D., senior research fellow at Swagelok Company, a Fellow of the Society. Joining an elite group of technical and professional leaders, Collins was selected for her contributions to the technical advances in stainless steels used in fluid systems applications. She will be formally inducted as an ASM Fellow (FASM) at the 2008 Materials Science & Technology Conference and Exposition Awards Dinner in Pittsburgh, Penn. on October 7.
The honor of Fellow was established in 1969 by ASM International to provide recognition of members for their distinguished contributions to materials science and engineering, and to develop a broad forum of leaders to serve as advisors to the society. Members are chosen by their peers. Collins joins 18 other society members in this year’s class.
“Sunniva’s technical expertise and leadership have been instrumental in helping Swagelok grow in innovative ways,” said Dave Peace, vice president, engineering. “In addition, her work has resulted in impressive contributions to the overall science of metallurgy, specifically stainless steels. Collins joined Swagelok in 1995 as a research metallurgist and has served in several engineering management positions, most recently as technical director for Swagelok Technology Services Company. In her current position, as the company’s first senior research fellow, she coordinates the company’s academic and governmental research initiatives.
During her tenure at Swagelok, Collins has worked to develop key standards on materials specifications, welding, surface finish requirements, and corrosion test methods for the semiconductor equipment industry. She has also contributed significantly to the research commercialization efforts surrounding SAT12SM services and the patented SAT12SM process for surface hardening of stainless steels.
Collins received her doctorate and master’s degree in materials science and engineering from Case Western Reserve University, and her bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan.
