Swagelok Company Commercializes Breakthrough Technology
First Customer Order Launches New Third Frontier Grant-Supported Surface Enhancement Business In Ohio
SOLON, Ohio (July 26, 2007)¾ Swagelok Company today announced the first customer order for its recently formed Swagelok Technology Services Company (STSC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Swagelok. The U.S. Naval Research Laboratory has placed a proprietary order for treatment of alloy specimens with the Swagelok® SAT12SM patented surface-hardening process. This breakthrough technology is a method for heat treating austenitic stainless steels that enables large-scale carbon absorption, dramatically improving hardness and other performance characteristics.
STSC was formed this year after a $5.5 million Third Frontier Grant from the Ohio Department of Development was awarded to Swagelok to market and commercialize its SAT12 process into a commercially viable, Ohio-based metals surface enhancement business. “Our work to date has proved the technology, and we see enormous opportunities to help customers who are looking for solutions in tough applications that require both hardness and corrosion resistance,” said John Buda, president STSC. The SAT12 process offers other benefits as well.
